Obituary

Barbara May Kahre (nee Pratt), age 100, died May 12, 2026, at The Arthur B. Hodges Center of the Edgewood Summit retirement community in Charleston, West Virginia.

She was born in Brockton, Massachusetts, the fourth of five children of Charles H. and Bertha M. Pratt. Her 1948 marriage to Edward L. Kahre, a US Navy sailor who later became a high school mathematics teacher, took her many places, including their 46-year stay in the Willow Springs, Missouri area. In 2011, she moved to Edgewood Summit.

Survivors include son, Jim Kahre (Debbie) of Hurricane, West Virginia; granddaughters, Sarah Kahre of Tallahassee, Florida, and Laura Kahre of Bunker Hill, West Virginia; sister-in-law, Mary Kahre of Mount Vernon, Missouri; and nieces and nephews in seven states.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Yarber Mortuary, Willow Springs, Missouri. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12-1:00 p.m., also at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in the Willow Springs City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Willow Springs Scholarship Club, PO Box 484, Willow Springs, MO 65793. Condolences may be expressed at www.yarbermortuary.com. The family is being assisted by Allen Funeral Home of Hurricane and Yarber Mortuary of Willow Springs.
