Obituary

Bobby Ray Wood, 90, of Mountain View, MO, passed away on August 12, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO.

The tenth of fourteen children, Bob was born at Enough, MO on March 15, 1934, to John and Delsie (nee: Troutman) Wood. The home place where he was born now lies under the waters of Council Bluff Lake in Iron Co, MO. His family moved to St. Louis, MO near the end of WWII.

Bob met and married the love of his life, Juanita Jane Cooper, in 1954, while both worked for the Englander Mattress Company in St. Louis, MO. As he told his children after Juanita passed, he saw her and he said to himself, "I'm going to marry her." On June 26, 1954, they were married at the Friendly Church in St. Louis. He and Juanita lived in St. Louis until Easter of 1963 when they moved to Birch Tree and lived there for the next 59 years. He and Juanita became residents of Mountain View Healthcare Nursing Home following his surgery in 2022.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita; his parents; seven brothers, Denver and his wife Julia, Raymond and his wife Goldie, Irvin and his wife Cecelia, Virgil and his wife Ruth, Hascal and his wife Laura, Lowell and wife Shirley, Junior and wife Sally; three sisters, Marie Johnson and husband Leo, infant Delsie Lorene Wood, Jessie Johnson Miracle and husbands (1st) Gene and (2nd) Paul; brother-in-law, Jim Engelhard; and sister-in-law, Janet Pope Wood.

Surviving are his daughter Janice Tappana and husband Bob of Columbia, MO; his son David Wood and his wife Linda of Birch Tree, MO; grandchildren, Jeremy Wood and his wife Lois of Mountain View, MO, Elizabeth Tappana-Taylor of Columbia, MO, Stephen Tappana and his wife Amanda of Sturgeon, MO, Heath Wood and his wife, Faron of Mountain View, MO, Katrina Tripp and husband Douglas of Mountain View, MO, Andrew Tappana of Columbia, MO; siblings, Mae Engelhard of St. Peters, MO, Harry Wood of Imperial, MO, and Jim Wood and his wife Pat of Foristell, MO; eleven great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Birch Tree, Missouri, with Pastor Jeff Brake officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2024, also at Yarber Mortuary, Birch Tree. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Birch Tree.
