Eula Mae
Reed
Sep 4, 1931 — Jul 30, 2025
Eula Mae Reed was born on September 4, 1931, in Bartlett, Missouri, to Samuel D. and Ola Mae Price. She was the fourth of nine children born into a close-knit family, where love, faith, and resilience were the foundation of their lives. Eula was a beloved sister to Goldie Elizabeth, Mary Lorene, Roscoe D, Hazel Lucille, Ola Jane, Everett Dale, Gladys Christine, and her surviving sister, Joyce Ann Whitworth of Winona, Missouri.
She was the proud and devoted mother of nine children: Estella Mae Wallace of Birch Tree, MO, Elizabeth Ann Terrill, Glenna Lea Brown of Winona, MO, Suzie Diane Carlile (Dean) of South Bend, IN, Betty Kay Heiney of Mountain View, MO, Samuel James Blanks of Birch Tree, MO, Michal Gene Blanks (Cis) of Winona, MO, Cynthia (Gopher) Grace Blanks, and Mary Alicia Whiteman of Chicago, IL. Her legacy continued through 24 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren, 28 great-great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-great-grandchild.
Eula's life was not without sorrow-she was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, five sisters, two brothers, six brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law, two daughters, two sons-in-law, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Yet through every loss, she remained a pillar of strength and love for her family.
Eula had a deep and abiding faith and was a longtime member of Pioneer Baptist Church, where she cherished her church family. She found joy in the simple things in life-faith, food, family, and the natural beauty of the rivers and springs she loved to visit. She worked hard throughout her life, first as a packer at Paramount Cap and later as a cook at the Hickory House in Birch Tree, Missouri. Her love for cooking eventually led her to open her own restaurant, Eula's Homestyle Cooking, in Winona, Missouri. Her father always said. "Toots could make an old shoe taste good," and that was no exaggeration. Eula has a gift for bringing people together around the table, and her food was a reflection of her heart, warm, comforting, and made with love. Each birthday, Eula made something special for her children, and every Christmas, she prepared goodies for her children and grandchildren, which was her gift to them, and one they will never forget. She was famous for her pies and her generous spirit.
Eula also had a playful side. She loved camping, playing softball with her kids, and singing Marty Robbins' "Gunfighter Ballads", which became a soundtrack for many family memories. She was a devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan and rarely missed a game. But perhaps the most memorable was her hugs. If you were ever blessed to receive one of Eula's hugs, you know it was something special, full of warmth, comfort, and a love that lingered long after. Eula Mae Reed lived a life full of faith, strength, kindness, and laughter. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to grow through each life that she touched. She will be deeply missed by a host of family and friends, but we find comfort in knowing she is now reunited with loved ones gone before her, and resting in the peace she so richly deserves.
