George Henry Brake, 87, of Birch Tree, Missouri, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 7, 2026. He was born on February 21, 1939, to Henry Eli Brake and Mildred Marie Brake.
George proudly served his country in the United States Army, serving in France before spending his working years in logging and trucking. He was a hardworking man who knew what long days looked like, whether he was in the woods logging timber or out on the road driving a truck. During his years as a truck driver, he was known by many as "Monkey's Uncle."
He was united in marriage to Elsie Laverne Smotherman on April 4, 1959. To this union four children were born, Michael George, Jimmy Wayne, Jeffery Matthew, and Kristen Michelle.
George was a Christian and loved the Lord. He served faithfully as a deacon and most recently attended Oak Grove Baptist Church. His faith was a steady part of his life and something his family will always remember.
When he was not working, George loved being outdoors. He enjoyed coon hunting, fishing, and making knives. He lived a simple life built around faith, family, hard work, and the things he loved.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie; his son, Jimmy; his parents, Henry and Marie Brake; four infant siblings; his brothers, Bill Brake and Donnie Brake; his sisters, Lorene Wolford, Earlene Pierce, and Judy Davis; his brothers-in-law, Bill Wolford, Bill Pierce, Bill Mills, and Eddie Davis; and his sister-in-law, Clara Brake.
He is survived by his children, Mike and wife, Barb, Jeff and wife, Kim, and Kristie and husband, Kevin Wallace; his sister, Shirley Mills; his sisters-in-law, Elaine Brake, and Eva Fry and husband, Ron; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
George will be remembered for his faith, his strength, his years of hard work, his love of hunting and fishing, and the example he set as a husband, father, grandfather, deacon, and Christian man.
Although his family will miss him deeply, they find peace in knowing that he is now home with Jesus and reunited in Heaven with the love of his life, Elsie, his son Jimmy, and the family and friends who went before him. His life, his faith, and his love for his family will not be forgotten.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Birch Tree, Missouri, with Pastor Jeff Brake officiating, under the direction Yarber Mortuary, Birch Tree. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10-11:00 a.m., also at the church. Interment will be in Corinth Cemetery, Birch Tree. Condolences may be expressed at www.yarbermortuary.com.
