George Thomas
Morton
Nov 9, 1950 — Oct 7, 2025
George Thomas Morton was born at home in Summersville, Missouri, on November 9, 1950, to Allie Morton and Georgia (Lampkin) Holman. He was called home on October 7, 2025, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, surrounded by family after a courageous battle with heart failure.
George was born and raised in Summersville, Missouri, and began his career with Canal Barge in 1975, where he worked faithfully until his retirement in 2012. In 1978, he met the love of his life, Earlene Hood, and her two beautiful daughters, whom he lovingly raised as his own. After marrying Earlene, they made their home in Mountain View, Missouri, where they raised their family and opened their hearts and home to foster children for several years.
George had a passion for wood crafting, bringing to life many of Earlene's designs, from cherished pieces that still fill their home to special hope chests he made for his grandchildren. He was a kind, God-loving, and gentle man, selfless, steadfast, and a tremendous leader for his family.
His grandchildren were his world. Whether it was lawn mower rides, trips for haircuts, park adventures, or simply watching westerns together, George created countless memories filled with love and laughter. He was a constant source of reassurance, reliability, and stability-a true example of unconditional love. He also held deep affection for his nieces and nephews and was admired by all who knew him.
George is survived by his two loving daughters, Julie (Joe) Taylor, and Judy (Chuck) Wilhelm; his sweet dog, Tater; his sisters, Lydia "Varment" (Rip) Crouch, Ada (Dan) Street, Donna (Ralph) Dupass, Noel (April) Crouch; sister-in-law Pam Crouch; six grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren, Jazzymen Williams, Larrissa Corter, Trey Williams, Aleighea Cliburn, Matalyn Cliburn, Jaxsen Cliburn, Justin Taylor (Heidi), Jade Burnam (Bryan), Ayrian Burnam, Barrett Burnam, Zachary Wilhelm (Lacey), Paityn Wilhelm, Grayson Wilhelm, Tailyn Wilhelm, Marilyn Wilhelm, Benjamin (Aaliyah) Wilhelm, whom are expecting Briggs Wilhelm, and Ira Wilhelm.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Earlene (Hood) Morton; his parents, Allie Morton and Georgia (Lampkin) Holman; his sister, Clara (Alvin) Cook; and his brother, Ernie Crouch.
George was an extraordinary man whose love and faith will continue to guide his family for generations to come.
