Obituary

James Glee VanEdward Tice was born on March 25, 1962, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Orma Laurence and Betty Jane (Searson) Tice. The 13-pound baby had a full head of dark curly hair with highlights of red and blonde strands. At 64, he had a few more white strands giving him a salt-and-pepper shade, but kept his full head of curls to his death on June 18, 2026.

Jimmy was of Irish, German, and Scottish descent, and he was the youngest of five children. He spent his childhood in Ohio and Kansas, finishing out his teen and young adult years in El Dorado, Kansas. It was here, at the Assembly of God Church, that he noticed the oldest of ten children and decided he would marry that 14-year-old girl, Sherry Venn.

He served his country in Fort Benning, Georgia; Mannheim, Germany; and Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Jimmy was an infantryman and a tanker operator, noted as the best weapons marksman and fastest runner in his squad.

On June 8, 1984, he married his childhood sweetheart in El Dorado, Kansas. They celebrated 42 years together in 2026. To this union, three children were born: Sarrah Dianne, Matthew Jameson, and Sammuel Laurence-Charles. The Tice Tribe moved to Mountain View, Missouri, in 1999, and then added a daughter-in-love, Katy Paige Tice-Ahle, in 2008.

During his lifetime, Jimmy thrived on excellence with work and play. He won competitions with his dart-throwing team and gained certificates in the educational and work fields. He enjoyed many hobbies outdoors, such as camping, fishing, working on cars, gardening, and caring for his pets and chickens. He also enjoyed spending time cooking, reading, researching, watching TV and movies, and visiting with family and friends over the phone or at his home.

Jimmy was known to impress others with his plethora of vocabulary and good advice. His laugh was infectious, and he enjoyed hearing others laugh. He retired at the age of 60, enjoying his jobs of refinery pipefitting, stucco construction, and truck driving. He often said of his last job that he was on the "never-ending trip."

Jimmy truly is on the never-ending trip now as he is with the God he was taught to love from a young age into eternity, where time has no meaning.

The welcome committee in Heaven consisted of Jesus, his son, Matthew Tice, his parents, Orma and Betty Tice, his sisters, Judith Blaylock and Billie Krause, his brother, Larry Tice, his father-in-law, Charles Venn, and a few other family members and friends.

Those left mourning, yet rejoicing in Jimmy's race being won are Westside church; his wife, Sherry; his children, Sarrah Tice, Sammuel Tice, and Katy (Jonathan) Ahle; seven grandchildren, Alex Ahle, Faith Tice, Jasmine Ahle, Grace Tice, Hope Tice, Liam Ahle, and Jernigan Tice; his brother, Thomas (Carolyn) Tice; mother-in-law, Marcia Venn; brothers and sisters-in-law, Danny Blaylock, Charlie (Shelly) Venn, Chris Venn, Michael Venn, Carla (Chris) Reed, Charlotte (Michael) Hatley, Cassandra (Mark) Miller, Phalena (Tiny) White, Christine (Doug) Collins, Michelle (Mark) Wise, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Westside Family Life Center, Willow Springs, Missouri, with Pastor David Lovan officiating, under the direction of Yarber Mortuary, Mountain View, Missouri. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Willow Springs. Condolences may be expressed at www.yarbermortuary.com.
