Obituary

John D. Cooper passed away on March 20, 2021, at his home in Mesa, Arizona. He was born to Reed T. and Grace (Cate) Cooper on April 26, 1930, in Flint, Michigan.

Shirley Grace (Penninger) Cooper was greeted by Jesus on December 19, 2009, in Mesa, Arizona. She was born to Ralph and Grace (Holt) Penninger on October 5, 1934, in Mountain View, Missouri.

John and Shirley were united in marriage on August 12, 1953, in Mountain View, Missouri. They had three children, Cheryl Ann, Joni Lynn, and Gregory Douglas, and resided for more than thirty years on an idyllic lake site in White Lake, Michigan.

John excelled at his job as Engineer at General Motors Corporation. He enjoyed time as a youth sports coach/referee, neighborhood handyman, and served on his neighborhood board and city commission. John loved reading and learning about new technology, and his greatest enjoyment was his children and grandchildren.

Shirley loved teaching History at Lakeland High School. After retirement, they moved to Mesa, Arizona, where she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, joined a local church, and continued to pursue her lifelong love of reading and learning.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Cooper, and his parents, Reed and Grace Cooper.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Grace Penninger.

John is survived by his three children, Cheryl Ann Cooper of Apache Junction, AZ, Joni Lynn (Cooper) Seifert of Wimberley, TX, and Gregory Douglas Cooper of Boonville, NC; six grandchildren, Sarah Mallett, Brian Ozga, Jason Cooper, Jerome Cooper, Emily Rosenberg, and Jessica Cooper; and five great-grandchildren, Eleanor Rosenberg, Audrey Mallett, Lilliana Ozga, Austin Cooper, and Delilah Rosenberg.

Shirley is survived by her husband, John Cooper (now deceased); three children, Cheryl Ann Cooper of Apache Junction, AZ, Joni Lynn (Cooper) Seifert of Wimberley, TX, and Gregory Douglas Cooper of Boonville, NC; one sister, Mary Logvin (now deceased); six grandchildren, Sarah Mallett, Brian Ozga, Jason Cooper, Jerome Cooper, Emily Rosenberg, and Jessica Cooper; and five great-grandchildren, Eleanor Rosenberg, Audrey Mallett, Lilliana Ozga, Austin Cooper, and Delilah Rosenberg.

Graveside Memorial services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2022, at Old City Cemetery, Mountain View, Missouri, with Rev. Gary Hardwick officiating, under the direction of Yarber Mortuary, Mountain View. Condolences may be expressed at www.yarbermortuary.com.
