Obituary

Margaret Rose Butler Pennycuick, 86 passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2024.  The youngest of four children, she was born near Birch Tree, Missouri on September 22, 1937, to Daniel Dewey and Maude Melvina Shelley Butler.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father; siblings, Robert Lee and wife Maxine Butler, Earl D. and wife Phyliss Butler, and Mary Ruth Butler Hensley and husband Leroy Hensley; daughter-in-law, Janet Bisch Pennycuick; and granddaughter, Emily Mary Pennycuick.

Margaret was united in marriage to Richard Hugh Pennycuick on August 18, 1957, at the Birch Tree Baptist Church in Birch Tree, Missouri.

Margaret is survived by her husband of 67 years, Richard of Montier, Missouri; and three children and families, Richard and Tracy Pennycuick of Harleysville, Pennsylvania, Richelle and Timothy Helbig of Claremore, Oklahoma, and Mark and Alessandra Pennycuick of Eureka, Missouri.   Margaret was blessed with eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  Grandchildren and families, Jena Christian Pennycuick Grissett and husband, Mike Grissett, children Emilee Salyers, Bella Grissett and Charles Grissett, Erika Pennycuick Grubbs and husband, Andrew Grubbs, children Evelyn Grubbs and William Grubbs, Captain Caitlin Pennycuick Grieve and husband, Andrew Grieve, Alexander Pennycuick, First Lieutenant Alyssa Pennycuick, Margo Helbig Martinez and husband, Oscar Martinez, Hannah Helbig and fiancé, Thomas Vanhooser, Hutch Helbig, Emma Pennycuick, and Ethan Pennycuick.

Margaret attended Birch Tree High School and graduated Valedictorian in 1955.  She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Southwest Missouri State University in 1969, and a Master of Science Degree in Education from Webster University.   Margaret started her teaching career in a small one-room schoolhouse in Sargent, Missouri.  She spent the majority of her teaching career as a second-grade teacher at Geggie Elementary School in the Rockwood School District in Eureka, Missouri.  In total, she taught for 28 years while raising a family and retiring in 1992.  In retirement, she and Richard farmed near Claremore, Oklahoma.

Margaret was caring and loving; she enjoyed cross-stitching and crocheting. She loved spending time with her family and particularly cooking with and for her grandchildren, family, and friends.  She was devoted to her family both raising her children and inspiring her grandchildren to follow their dreams and aspirations.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Yarber Mortuary in Mountain View, Missouri, Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10-10:30 a.m. also at the funeral home. Interment will be at Brown-Depriest Cemetery in Birch Tree, Missouri. Condolences may be expressed at www.yarbermortuary.com.
