Melvin Carl Chaney, 91, was born on November 23, 1933, in Lamar, Colorado, to Amos and Lola (McBride) Chaney. Melvin was a beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who passed from this life on October 30, 2025, in Mountain View, Missouri.

Melvin was united in marriage on June 8, 1953, to Patsie (Wright) Chaney in Birch Tree, Missouri. Melvin honorably served in the Army from 1955 to 1957. Afterward, he began his career as a maintenance manager. Patsie and Melvin lived an interesting life as Melvin's work moved them around the country to Colorado, Alabama, and Texas.

Melvin enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting, and spent many patient hours teaching his children how to enjoy the outdoors with him. In his retirement years, Melvin moved back to Missouri. He was a devout Christian man who enjoyed worshipping with friends at Faith in the Word Ministry in Summersville, Missouri. He took great comfort in his friendship with John and Barbara Atchison.

Melvin is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patsie; his parents, Amos and Lola Chaney; and his siblings, LaVerne Crider, Alice Bybee, and infant brothers, Marvin and Calvin.

Survivors include his daughters, Keri (Michael) Mills of Wayne County, TN, and Lesa (David) Covert of Roatan, Honduras; son, Stewart (Nadya) Chaney of West Plains, MO; and grandson, Carl (Ashlynn) Chaney of Jefferson City, MO.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at Yarber Mortuary, Mountain View, Missouri, with John and Barbara Atchison officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 2-3:00 p.m., also at the funeral home. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Birch Tree, Missouri.
