Obituary

Roy K Barr, 96, formerly of Willow Springs, passed away September 2, 2024, at Ozark Riverview Manor in Ozark, Mo. He was born August 4, 1928, to Lester and Purney Barr.

Roy married Dolores Coble on October 11, 1949, and to this union, three children were born, Mike, Nancy, and Daphne.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years Dolores; his parents, Lester and Purney Barr; brothers, Ray Barr and Howard Barr; his sister, Barbara Tapp Vickers; and great-granddaughter, Sophie Rushing.

Survivors include son, Mike (Dee) Barr of Bella Vista, AR; daughters, Nancy (Joe) Beltz of Mountain View, MO, and Daphne McCormick of Springfield, MO; sister, Margi Strohl of Springfield, MO; grandchildren, Shelli Kerr, Stephanie (Shawn) Beltz-Price, Brandon (Amy) Barr, Jason (Jill) Beltz, and Ashley (Andrew) Packwood; and eight great-grandchildren.

Roy was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who devoted his life to God and his family. He graduated high school from Willow Springs and joined the U.S. Navy where he served from 1948 to 1952.

Upon returning from the Navy, he and Dolores settled in Willow Springs. He spent several of the first years with Missouri Department of Transportation working the road crews.  Later years at MODOT he oversaw the building and surrounding property at the district office in Willow Springs. During this time, he also raised chickens, as many as 30,000 at times, from chicks to pullets.

After retiring, he and Dolores traveled to all 48 contiguous states. He devoted his free time to refinishing small furniture, but his primary passion was clock building and repair. His patience, skill with intricate mechanisms, and belief that he could fix anything earned him the nickname "The Clock Doc."

Roy enjoyed laughing and joking with everyone around him and always had a smile and story for everyone. He will be missed by his family and friends.
