Obituary

Shirley Ann Stalter Bishop Kalbus, 82, died on December 15, 2020, at Good Samaritan Society, Indianola, Iowa. She was born June 16, 1938, near Medora, Iowa, in Warren County to, Claren and Julia Frances (Edgerton) Stalter.

Shirley was born on a farm near Medora, Iowa. She was the eighth of thirteen children born to Claren and Julia Stalter. She had an amazing work ethic and a servant's heart.

One of our favorite stories was during a blizzard in Indianola, she was picked up on a snowmobile so she could typeset the Record-Herald and Indianola Tribune and meet the press deadline.

Shirley enjoyed many hobbies including sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, and cooking. She would stop whatever she was doing to rescue family members needing a zipper or hem put in. She would gladly make cookies or bars for children's school parties or work events. She loved entertaining family and friends and was well known for her wonderful potato salad, ham balls, cavatelli, homemade pizza, and brownies, "vrownies," to her grandkids. She loved teaching her children and grandchildren songs that still bring smiles to their faces.

She was united in marriage to Doyle Eugene Bishop, Jr. on October 26, 1955, in Indianola, Iowa, and to this union, three children were born. After the passing of her first husband, Doyle, on November 4, 2004, Shirley remarried, Delmer Kalbus, on April 15, 2006.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Doyle Eugene Bishop; her son, Randy E. Bishop; her son-in-law, Thomas Walker; her siblings, Donald Stalter (Frances Stalter), Gale Stalter (Helen Stalter), Carol (Jake) Stalter (Shirley Stalter), Keith Stalter (Marie Stalter), Charles "Ray" Stalter (Donna Stalter), Darlene Goodrich (Don Goodrich), Mary Adamson, Jerry Stalter, Rose Marie Knoer (Jay Knoer), Carolyn "Cardi" Knouse (Tom Knouse), and Judi Sue Stalter; her father and mother-in-law, Doyle E. and Virgie Marie Goode Bishop, Sr.; two brothers-in-law, James "Jim" Bishop (Naomi), and Gorden Netley; and three sisters-in-law, Charlotte Marie Bishop, Joyce Bishop, and Phyllis Bishop.

She is survived by her husband, Delmer Kalbus; her daughter, Rhonda Walker of Lawrenceville, GA; son, Royce Bishop, and wife Rhonda of Eminence, MO; daughter-in-law, Tracie Bishop of Des Moines, IA; brother, James Stalter, and wife Patricia of Adel, IA; eight grandchildren, Mia Bishop, Jennifer Bishop, Roxanne Bishop, Tyler Bishop (Kristina Bishop), Laicee Bishop, Kyle Walker, Nicholas Wolf, and Emma Rose Walker; seven great-grandchildren, Craig Connett, Jr., Caralynn Dekeyzer, Manuel Dekeyzer, Evan Bishop, Maverick Bishop, Anna Kay Zepeda, and Jaxson Zepeda; four brothers-in-law, Willis Adamson, Donald "Bob" Bishop, Richard "Dick" Bishop (Judy Bishop), Ralph "Bill" Bishop (Lois Bishop); three sisters-in-law, Shirley Stalter Bunnell, Opal "Kathy" Evans (John Evans), and Katherine "Kay" Netley; and a plethora of much-loved nieces and nephews.

Shirley was a member of the Indianola Christian Union Church in Indianola, IA, and the Fairview Christian Union Church. She attended the Eminence 1st Baptist Church in Eminence, Missouri. She cherished her Lord Jesus and wanted everyone to know how much they are loved.
