Venice Pauline
Atchley
May 31, 1928 — Jun 2, 2026
Venice Pauline Phipps Atchley was born May 31, 1928, in Mountain View, Missouri, and passed from this life June 2, 2026, in Mesquite, Texas, at the age of 98.
Preceding her in death are her husband of 59 years, Norman Atchley; parents, Henry and Nora Phipps; sisters, Bernita Woolsey and Beverly Patterson; and brother, Wayne Phipps.
Surviving her is daughter, Carol Powers and husband, Jeff; sons, Bruce Atchley and wife, Nancy, and William "Bill" Atchley and wife, Myriam; grandchildren, Taryn Owens, Amanda Hantack, Thomas Atchley, Alex Powers, Suzanne Kimberly Suarez, Maggie Atchley, and Stephanie Behrendt; thirteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Pittman and Ernestine Chowning; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Venice was a Christian role model, and she obeyed the gospel in the 1940s. She served as the wife of a minister, a Bible class teacher, and a servant to all. In 1945, she moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and volunteered in a ground-breaking radio ministry of the local church called the Herald of Truth. She was the last of the original staff of that ministry to pass.
In May 1953, while home on vacation, she met Norman Atchley, who was visiting family while on military leave. Norman asked Venice out, but she would only consent if he went to church with her. Norman obeyed the gospel in July 1953, and they married on August 27, 1953. They enjoyed church work, traveling to visit family and church friends. After Norman's passing in 2014, Venice began to suffer a decline in her cognitive health. In October 2019, she moved from her beloved childhood hometown to Mesquite, Texas. There, she made friends with the residents of Christian Care, and the staff described her as a social butterfly who never lost her kindness and sweetness. With her passing, she is reunited with friends and family in the heavenly realms that our heavenly Father has prepared for His children.
